PURPOSE:To reduce the capacity of a starter for a motor by selecting the rated voltage of a power converter at low value and decreasing the field of the motor to start the motor. CONSTITUTION:When a motor 1 is started with converters 3, 4 and then connected in parallel with a power supply system 8, the current of a field coil 6 is controlled to a value of approx. 1/2 of the rated value by an exciter 7 in advance the starting. Then, breakers 9, 10 are closed to control the converters 3, 4 through a controller 12 by the signal from the position detector 2 to thus accelerate the motor. After the motor reaches the synchronous speed, the breakers 9, 10 are opened to increase the current of the field coil 6. When the current of the coil 6 is detected by a synchronous detector 13, the breaker 11 is closed. Accordingly, the motor can be connected in parallel with a power supply system 8 without any turbulence, the converters 3, 4 are reduced at their rate voltages, and the capacity of the starter can be decreased. |
