<p>A total service telephone answering system includes a multiplicity of incoming phone lines normally to be serviced live by a number of operator stations, with overflow calls being handled by a number of automatic answering machines for automatically conversing with a caller and recording the caller's response. A concentrator functions to continuously sweep the incoming lines to select any line having an unanswered call thereon and to continuously sweep the answering machines to select any available machine and effect a connection between the selected line and the selected machine. A separate monitor/intercept is connected to each answering machine and is located at an operator station to play caller responses while being recorded to permit the operator to automatically intercept the machine handled call for servicing the call live while freeing the machine.</p> |
