CATALYSTS SUPPORTED ON AT LEAST PARTIALLY POLYCRYSTALLINE GRAPHITE

A method for manufacturing improved supported catalysts comprising selecting as a support material a material containing at least a proportion of carbon in the form of polycrystalline graphite, subjecting the said support material to a form of surface oxidation to produce oxide groups, which may be acidic or basic in nature, impregnating the said surface oxidized support material with a solution containing accordingly cations or anions of a catalyst metal to form salts therewith and subsequently drying and reducing the salts to form a layer of catalyst metal on the surfaces of the said support material. The catalysts thus prepared are particularly suitable as fuel cell electrode catalysts having an improved activity.
