PURPOSE:To prepare diphenyl useful as a heating medium, a platicizer, an electrical insulating oil, etc. in high selectivity, by the dehydrogenation-condensation of benzene in the presence of a catalyst system comprising Zr, Ti or their compounds and Mo, Co, Mg or their compounds. CONSTITUTION:Diphenyl is prepared in high selectivity, by the dehydrogenation- condensation of benzene in the presence of a catalyst system comprising Zr, Ti or their compounds (hydride or oxides) and Mo, Co, Mg or their compounds (oxides). The ratio of Mo, Co or Mg to Zr or Ti is 0.1-4, preferably 0.1-1 by weight. The reaction temperature is 400-650 deg.C, preferably 450-600 deg.C. USE:A solvent for the production of pressure-sensitive paper, or an intermediate for organic chemicals. |
