Treating skin disease, e.g. psoriasis, with 3-substd. psoralen derivs. - in conjunction with UV radiation

Compsn. for treating skin diseases contains a psoralen deriv. of formula (I) (where R1 is COOR3 or CN; R2 is H or CH3; and R3 is H, CH3 or C2H5. Cpds. (I) are new where R2=H; R1 = COOCH3 or CN. Used esp. for oral or topical treatment of psoriasis punctata, herpes simplex, mycosis fungoides, microbial eczema, acne, etc. in conjunction with UV irradiation. The usual oral dose is 1-2 mg/kg while topical compsns. contain 0.5-4 esp. 1-2% (I). Unlike 8-methoxypsoralen (I) do not induce erythema, tanning, tumours or other skin injury and do not reduce the number of lymphocytes in the blood. 3-Carbethoxy-psoralen caused no deaths and no loss of wt. when given intraperitoneally to mice at 36x 0.4 mg over 7 weeks.
