1520492 Free-standing pouch UNILEVER Ltd 8 July 1975 [9 July 1974] 28710/75 Heading B8K A free-standing pouch has two walls la, 1b, and a folding bottom 3 between the walls which has two parts 3a, 3b each joined by a fold line 4a or 4b to a pouch wall, and joined together by a folding line 2. The bottom has cut-out portions 11, 12 to form recesses at the ends of the fold line 2, and the pouch walls and folding bottom are joined together along the side edges 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b of the walls, the cut-out portions permitting the inner surfaces of the walls to be connected together at their outside parts oversubstantially their whole length. The construction ensures that the transition from two to four layers of material occurs within the width of the side seams and not at their outer edges. The side seams may be of uniform width as shown in the Fig. 1 blank, or may be wider in the region of the folding bottom in which case the cut-outs have the same width as the narrower portions of the seams. The cut-outs may have rounded corners. The bottom may be welded or sealed to the lower edges of the walls at 15. The seams may be formed by welding, heat-sealing or gluing. The pouch forming material may be a polyester/aluminium/polyethylene or a polyester/ aluminium/polypropylene laminate, or paper coated with polyethylene, or polyethylene coated with polyester or polyester coated with polyvinylidene chloride and polypropylene. |
