PURPOSE:To eliminate a need of the working technique of high precision for formation of an optical fiber terminal by closely bringing a transparent body, whose refractive index is approximately equal to that of optical fibers, into contact with outside surfaces of optical fibers in the direction of about 45 deg. to the end face and forming a flat face orthogonal to the direction of 45 deg. on a part of the outside surface of the transparent body. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic member 12 in which four optical fibers 14a-14d are stored is optically polished at 45 deg. to axes of optical fibers 14a-14d together with a plane plate glass member 16. A light beam 20 propagated in optical fibers 14a-14d from the side of an array fiber bundle 11 is totally reflected on a 45 deg. end face 17 and passes the plane plate glass member 16 and is emitted out of an optical fiber terminal 19. In this case, columnar side faces 21a-21d on the side of the plane plate glass member 16 of optical fibers 14a-14d scarcely act upon the emitted light from optical fibers as lenses because refractive indexes of optical fibers 14a-14d, an epoxy adhesive 15, and the plane plate glass member 16 are 1.46, 1.48, and 1.50 respectively and are approximately equal to one another. Thus, the optical fiber terminal is easily formed. |
