The bank cheque includes the usual printed paper on which characters may be printed for machine reading. The characters may be suitable for magnetic reading or optical reading. On the top surface of the note is a layer of transparent material. This may be a layer of self-adhesive material, suitable substances being polyvinyl acetate or cellulose. The layer serves two specific purposes. It increases the weight of the note, and it makes the note less flimsy and liable to become creased. As a result the note is more easily handled by machine in a bank. Magnetic or optical characters may also be written straight on to the treated surface.
|
