The structure comprises a shell of rigid impermeable expanded resin incorporating at least one body of spongy water absorbent material. Over one part at least of two opposed walls of the shell there are holes which pass through these walls. The frequency and distribution of the holes are such as not to weaken the mechanical characteristics for lifting the structure. The diameter of the holes are such as to permit entry of water and discharge of air but not of water. The holes may penetrate the mass of water absorbent material.
