Sensitising process for treating human hair - includes irradiation using mercury vapour lamp in ozone enriched atmosphere

The process for treating and colour hair includes carrying out laboratory tests on samples of hair in order to determine the amount of treatment necessary. A pump provides a pulsed supply of air which is fed into two corona discharge tubes. Inside these tubes a discharge is formed between an annular electrode and a central electrode in order to produce ozone. The flow of air produced by the pump drives the ozone into an enclosure where the locks of hair to be treated are held on a grid. A mercury vapour lamp is situated inside the enclosure under the locks of hair. The specimen of the lamp includes rays of wavelength 254 x 10-9 m, and other less important rays of longer wavelength. The mercury vapour lamp also contributes to the ozone concentration although not to the same extent as the corona discharge tubes. The ozone enriched air is evacuated from the enclosure via a channel.
