Synchroniser for spring driven clock - uses bipolar stepping motor for balance drive, controlled by alternating polarity clock pulses from quartz oscillator

The clock has a regulator comprising a gear and a balance the regulator being synchronised by clock pulse, derived by division from a quartz oscillation, using an electromechanical effect. The balance (16) is driven by a bipolar stepping motor (30), controlled by a quarts oscillator with pulses of alternating polarity. Preferably the balance is formed by a two-toothed hollow drive and the gear (15) has equidistant, peripheral, radial notches, which are engaged by cylindrical pins of the hollow drive. During each step the motor advances the hollow drive through 180 deg.. The drive and gear may be so arranged that the cylindrical pins at rest are inserted into adjacent notches at identical width. The balance (16) may have a control lever (18) with a forked end (18a), which is positively engaged by an eccentric (34) of the stepping motor drive shaft.
