PURPOSE:To make tone arbitrarily selectable and obtain the color liquid crystal element of small bulkness by using the color polarizing plates provided with colored transparent surface protecting layers. CONSTITUTION:In the color liquid crystal element constituted by affixing color polarizing plates 2, 2' by way of adhesive agents 4 to the top and bottom of a liquid crystal cell 1 and disposing a reflecting plate 3 to the bottom of the polarizing plate 2', the ones comprising providing the films (surface protecting layers) 21, 21' of about 10-300mu in thickness composed of transparent resins (acrylic resin, polyester, etc.) added with dyes on both surfaces (one surface alone is equally well) of an iodine-base-, polyene-base polarizer 22 are used as the above-mentioned color polarizing plates 2, 2'. C.I. solvent orange 1, C.I. solvent yellow 1, etc. are used as the dyes and the use amount of the dyes is preferably about 0.01-1.5wt% based on the weight of the transparent resin. |
