Multistage flash evaporator has a condenser pipe running along the top. The feed liquid is introduced into a rectangular channel along the base. This has a pair of rectangular weirs above it over which the liq. flows, down onto the upper surface of the closed channel. Some evapon. occurs and the remainder of the liq. runs into collection channels on either side. The liq. runs diagonally into the central channel of the next effect. In this way flow from effect to effect is achieved. Used esp. for desalination evaporators. Avoids the problem of flooding and level control which occurs with some evaporators and thus allows more uniform evapn.
