A bar winding is formed from specially prepared single rods. It is esp. for Roebel bar windings for large a.c. machines, esp. turbogenerators. The winding rods are curved in the flank region, namely, between their offset - bent at an angle - at the keyway outlet and their contact ends. They form a compound curve at most over the top edge of their cross-section with one or more segmental arches. In other words, the curvature is at its greatest along the narrow surfaces of the rods in the direction of the rods longitudinal axis. The centre points of the curvatures lie at right angles to the narrow surfaces in the direction of the machine axis.
