Separating system for conveyed workpieces - detects movements of flap by two or more stacked workpieces and actuating separating deflector

The handling system separates workpieces and prevents them from becoming stacked during conveyance. A moving flap (4) is positioned such that it normally allows only one workpiece (5) to pass between it and the conveyor. A detector (6, 7) responds to any movement of the flap caused by more than one workpiece passing it simultaneously (e.g. one workpiece on top of another). The detector actuates a device that separates the second workpiece from the first. The detector may be a proximity switch (inductive or capacitive) and excites a solenoid (3) when the flap is moved. The solenoid moves a deflector plate that separates the workpieces.
