Shearing machine for cutting compressed scrap metal - has rearward extending cover to cope with extra long bundles

A shearing machine is designed to cut long bundles of compressed scrap metal into convenient lengths. The machine has a pneumatic or hydraulic ram (23) which pushes the scrap metal (40) between the guide plates (11) to the shear blade (3). The machine is able to cope with long bundles of scrap by means of a cover plate (30) attached to the ram and extending rearwards over the ram cylinder. This cover plate (30) has a hinged flap (33) at the outer end, actuated by a jack (31), which pushes the scrap towards the shear blade (3).
