Thermally insulated plastics containers for containing food in institutions such as hospitals, consist of two identical rigid dishes of core- foamed plastics material, each said dish having a substantially rectangular bottom 1, Fig. 1, and four side walls 2-5 diverging therefrom having flat horizontal upper surfaces 6-9 provided at their outer perimeter with raised rims 12, 13 which do not intrude upon said flat horizontal surfaces and which extend from two diagonally opposed corners to at most half the distance to the adjacent corners, the containers being formed when the flat horizontal surfaces of the two dishes are placed one on the other. The dish components of the containers may themselves be conveniently stacked one inside the other, Fig. 8, by the provision of an edge 34 adapted to be supported by a flat horizontal supporting surface 35 of a side wall of an adjacent dish so that a gap 36 is left between adjacent dishes. The dish components are preferably made of a polycarbonate, and by a structural foam injection moulding process which produces a sandwich construction having smooth impermeable outer skins with an inner layer of foamed cellular material. Ribs hold tableware and serve to keep stacked containers in their relative positions. <IMAGE> |
