Dispersion of solid matter in a fluid - esp. pelletised pigments broken down by high frequency pressure gradients

Pelletised or extruded pigments are added to a quantity of fluid in which they are to be dispersed, to preliminarily prepare a macroscopic homogeneous mixt. The mixt. is put into a circuit in which it is subjected to a high frequency alternating pressure filed with severe pressure gradients. This is intended, by virtue of the sheating forces generated by the pressure gradients to reduce the solid particles in size. For pref. the mixt. is put through two or more circuits in series with the frequency and/or the size of the pressure gradients increasing in the successive circuits. Used to make possible the dispersal of pelletised pigments into a fluid so that the free flow characteristics of the pigments in this form can be exploited and the inconvenience of the powdered pigments eliminated.
