An inexpensive de-icer for frozen car door locks is of plastics or other insulating material casing brought into a pressure contact with the door handle. The surrounding bead, featuring built-in magnets, provides good adherence to the metal, sealing off the lock with an isothermal layer. In addition to magnets in the rubber bead, the protecting unit has a phial with de-icing liq. which is injected into the car lock when the unit is pressed against the door. The bead may also feature fine helical heating wire fed from the car battery for protecting the lock of the rear door from freezing.
