<p>Two rectangular pieces (Figure 1), of plastics material corresponding to the top and bottom layers (14, 16) of the bag (10) to be formed are partly welded together at (30,32) to leave access slits (34, 36) to the bag. Rectangular end pieces (38, 40) are then lap welded to the bag. Individual baffle structures (12) are welded to the top and bottom layers (14, 16), of the bag (10) using a jig (42) mounting a row of baffle structures (12), encompassing floating ring dies (46), the jig projecting through the tube slits to position the baffle structures (12) and dies (46) for dielectric welding, after which the jig is withdrawn from the now welded baffle structures (12). After the requisite number of rows of baffles (12) have been welded in place, the slits are closed by lap welding and a fully lap-welded mattress bag (10) results. <IMAGE></p> |
