The stabiliser comprises a reactance core (4) and a main core (5), which are equipped with windings (1, 2, 3). The main core is composed of sheets with oriented grain and comprises two columns (50) which are saturable, adjustable air gaps (52) and two non-saturated heads (51) which are expediently elongate in such a manner as to form polar enlargements sufficient to direct the saturation flux of the columns. With this arrangement, a small part of the main core (5) is affected by the saturation while the remainder operates as flux director, almost entirely eliminating the dispersion thereof in air. Thus, this main core forms a differential reluctance magnetic circuit. <IMAGE>
