1524528 Spinal protector J R FEILD 17 Oct 1975 [29 Oct 1974 25 Nov 1974 7 Oct 1975] 42733/75 Heading A5R A protector for use following spinal surgery for example to remove intervertebral disc portions, comprises a shield 13, Figs. 1 and 4, for placement in the spinal canal 59, Fig. 4, and having a part-cylindrical body portion 23 for extending around the dura 53 to prevent post operative adhesion thereof, a tongue portion 25 for extending across the excavated portion of the vertebra, and a roof member 17 for covering the excavated portion of the vertebra, said roof member 17 being connectable with the shield 13 by means of a joining member 19 which engages in an aperture 43 in the roof member. A conduit 15 is provided for protecting a spinal nerve 55 whereby in use the nerve 55 is inserted into the conduit 15 through a slot 33 and flanges 35, 37 are joined together to seal said slot. A filler member 21 is provided to fill the space in the region where part of the disc has been removed. Apertures 57, 58 are provided in body portion 23 for suturing shield 13 to the dura. |
