PURPOSE:To improve machining accuracy by providing a detecting arm having a detector on the headstock to detect the errors due to thermal displacement of the ball screws as well as the wear of the cutting edge. CONSTITUTION:An L-shaped detecting arm 8 is rotatably provided in front of the spindle 2 held on the headstock 1 of a numerical control lathe (L). A detecting unit 9 is fitted on one end of the detecting arm 8. Detecting heads 10-12 corresponding to the type of cutting tools are provided for the detecting unit 9. Tools B1-B3 are fitted to the tool post (T). When the tools are fed in the direction Z-Z, the tools come in contact with the corresponding detecting heads, thus electrically connecting an automatic control unit equipped by the machine tool so that the position of the tools are detected. |
