A core sealing (2) of bituminous and/or plastic bonded material is built in. in layers into a dyke structure of earth and/or rock. Each layer of the dyke and/or core support material (3) is first inserted and consolidated over the dykes full width. A slit, of core sealing width, is dug out and filled with sealing material, and this is then consolidated. Core support material and dyke building material (4) may be inserted and consolidated at the same time. This obviates need for a special appliances and reduces interference with dyke material while the core zone is being built in.
