The remote control system for a heating installation includes a thermostat providing a binary output signal (0 or 1) according to whether the temp. is below or above the set temp. The thermostat output is connected to one input of a gate, whose second input is connected to the output of a multivibrator. the output of the gate is connected via a power amplifier to the primary of a transformer whose secondary is connected to the terminals of a mains plug. The thermostat thus transmits information via the mains network to a heater which has a control relay whose operating coil is controlled by the output of a frequency detector. The frequency detector input is connected to the terminals of the tuned secondary winding of a transformer whose primary is connected to the mains supply. The primary of the first transformer and the secondary of the second transformer are tuned to the same frequency.
