The segment (1) is set with diamonds and is used to cut stone, being mounted on a straight or a circular saw blade (6 or 10). Straight or curved segments are used with the respective blade types, each being provided with a 'U' section groove which houses the blade edge, and each being secured on the blade by brazing. The arrangement facilitates accurate mounting of the segment, and curved segments may inc. grooves of which the longitudinal invert profile corresponds to the edge profile of the circular blade for which it is intended. Groove widths may be equal to 50 to 75% of the segment width, and curved grooves may be cut by mounting the segment on a pivotable arm for presenting to a grinding wheel with a profiled rim.
