The return mechanism has a spring locking piece (11) that engages in recesses, in the switch. The axis (6a) about which the release element (6) rotates is fixed immovably to the housing (1) of the switch. The release faces on the release element are located on arms each side of the line joining the switching piece's (5) axis of rotation (5a, 6a) and the release element outside the lateral locking recesses for the locking piece. The switching piece is returned to its central rest position (switch off) by disengaging the locking piece from the appropriate recess.
