Sodium methallyl-sulphonate prodn. - by heating aq. sodium sulphate with methallyl chloride in presence of methylcellulose

Sodium methallyl-sulphonate prodn. useful in petrochemical industry, includes reaction of aq. sodium sulphate soln. with methallyl chloride at elevated temp. in the presence of methyl-cellulose. The process is accelerated and the purity of the final prod. is improved by conducting the reaction in oxygen-free atmos. at 65-115 degrees C (PREF. 105-115 degrees C) with mechanical agitation (Reynold number 16-18 x 104).
