<p>The emergency brake system is partic. for a motor car. It comprises one or more skids which are carried on pivoted levers under the bottom of the car and are normally held in retracted position by a ratchet or similar latch mechanism. The skids are spring-loaded so that, on release of the latch mechanism, they are extended and with friction surfaces come in cont act with the road surface in a region behind the centre of gravity of the car.
