The motor driven hypercycloidal vibrator is for consolidating concrete. The vibrator action is obtained from a constrained shaft free to move within the rotor, the power to the motor being supplied at 50 or 600Hz and the vibrator frequency being about 3000 vibrations per minute. The shaft (7) is central within the hollow rotor (3) and is held at one end either an integral flexible connection (10) or by a separate flexible coupling which is made integral with one end shell (11) of the rotor. The shaft is constrained at this end by a ball race (6) and has a hollowed free end (8) which oscillates around a stud (9) fixed to the stator shell (1) due to the combined action of rotational movement and gravity. The free end may also be a shallow core moving within a matching cavity.
