The method enables the direct and automatic production of book blocks from printed sheets. Each printed sheet is folded making a parallel fold with the folding edges located transverse to the direction of conveyor movement. After this the folded sheet is out lengthways into layers with the cut edges located parallel to the direction of conveyor movement, with a scaled flow being formed from the cut layers and with subsequently the layer flows being splayed in accordance with the screen measurements of a collecting device into a fan shape. The layers of the layer flow are conveyed transverse, collected into a bookblock form and are subsequently processed into a bookblock.
