A machine tool which can carry out a sequence of forming and assembly operations has a circular tool support plate (4) which rotates in the vertical plane. The tool plate (4) is attached to a ring with inner and outer teeth. The drive to the tool plate can be arranged so that either the outer teeth or the inner teeth are used. The number of teeth in each driving pinion is chosen such that the ratio of speed reduction is the same whichever mode of drive is used. This optional method of drive provides more flexible operation.
