Electromagnetic fuel injection valve - ensures that quantity of fuel injected into engine is linearly dependent on time for which it is open

The fuel injection valve has a nozzle with a needle. The latter passes through a hole with radial clearance. A recess is located between the hole and the periphery of a plate fixed to the valve's casing. The recess's diameter is greater than the diameter of the needle in this region. The plate has flow holes which connect the fuel regions together upstream and downstream of the plate such that the large flow cross-section required to reduce the pressure fluctuations occuring when the needle is operated is present. The linearity between the open time of the valve and the quantity of fuel injected is thereby improved.
