PURPOSE:To obtain a solvent with a pertinent property as the solvent for a color forming dye and having no toxicity or disagreeable smell by a method wherein alkyl benzene is aralkylated with styrenes in the presence of synthetic silica alumina catclyst. CONSTITUTION:Alkyl benzene having side chain alkyl group of carbon number 1-4 and a member of styrenes (styrene, vinyl toluene, alpha-methyl styrene) are supplied continuously to a catalyst layer filled with synthetic silica alumina precessed by calcining at 450-600 deg.C and containing 20-50wt% of alumina, and the alkyl benzene is aralkylated by the kind of styrene under a temperature of 100-200 deg.C in a liquid phase. A fraction thus obtained is employed as a solvent for a color forming dye. The color former is dissolved into this solvent and microcapsulated. The microcapsulated color former is coated on a paper as a color former layer and thus a pressure-sensitive paper for duplication is produced. |
