PURPOSE:The reaction between methyl acrylate or methacrylate and glycide is carried out using an alkali metal halide as a catalyst to produce title compound used as a raw material for powder coating in high yield. CONSTITUTION:In the production of glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate by ester- interchange reaction between methyl acrylate or methacrylate and glycide, an alkali metal halide, e.g., lithium chloride, is used as a catalyst in an amount of 0.005-0.1 mol per mol of the glycide. EFFECT:The catalyst has high activity and prohibits almost completely sidereactions and the objective compound is obtained in high yeild. Further, the catalyst is untoxic and sustains the activity even in water. |
