PURPOSE:To improve the mechanical strength, dimensional stability, etc. of the surface layer of a photosensitive material by adding glyoxal and a compound having two or more vinylsulfonyl groups as a hardening agent to at least a gelatin-containing layer. CONSTITUTION:To at least a gelatin-containing layer out of the photographic constitutive layers of a photosensitive material is added a hardening agent prepared by dissolving glyoxal and a compound having two or more vinylsulfone groups in water or organic solvent. This agent is used in an amt. of about 0.01-100wt% to the amt. of gelatin as dry gelatin in a coating solution for a photographic constitutive element. After forming the hardening agent-added constitutive element by coating, this hardening agent solution may further be overcoated onto the outermost layer. Thus, effective hardenability is provided without deteriorating the photographic characteristics such as fogging and sensitivity of an emulsion, and the photographic material is enabled to withstand high temp. rapid processing and automatic processing. |
