PURPOSE:To enhance the heat transfer efficiency of a vertical type glass starting material preheater by placing many dispersion plates, in the heater, making a specified angle to the horizontal plane and extending in the horizontal direction so that starting materials are dropped zigzag. CONSTITUTION:Outer wall 15 of the vertical type preheater is made of heat resistant metal plate and covered with insulating material layer 16. In the preheater many dispersion plates 17 extending in the horizontal direction are placed making an angle larger than the repose angle of glass starting materials to the horizontal plane so that falling materials are accumulated once and further fall downward. Inclination angle (b) of plates 17 is pref. adjusted to 27-37 deg. in accordance with the water content of the materials, that is, the position of the preheater in the vertical direction. Plates 17 form zigzag passes obliquely downward and become a plurality of successively arranged dispersion plate groups. Thus, the materials fall onto plates 17 in succession while forming zigzag passes. |
