PURPOSE:Using a catalyst prepared by reaction of an alkali metal with alumina at a specific temperature is isomerized 1,4,7-decatriene under relatively mild conditions to produce selectively title compound useful as an intermediate for various kinds of chemicals. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst is prepared by dispersing at least one alkali metal on alumina carrier with high surface area with heat over the melting point of said alkali metal, preferably at 200-500 deg.C under an inert gas atmosphere. The amount of the alkali metal employed is 1-30wt%, preferably 4-20wt%. The use of said catalyst isomerizes 1,4,5-decatriene even under relatively mild conditions with high catalytic activity and causes the selective isomerization of only the double bonds in the 1- position in 1,4,9-decatriene but not the double bond in the 9-position, thus giving 1,6,8-decatriene in high selectivity. |
