PREPARATION OF POLYBASIC CARBOXYLIC ACID ALKENYL ESTER

PURPOSE:To prepare the title compound in high yield, by the alkenyl exchange reaction using a catalyst system comprising a main catalyst consisting of Pd and/or a Pd compound and a co-catalyst consisting of a copper compound containing a copper halide and an alkali metal compound. CONSTITUTION:A polybasic carboxylic acid alkenyl ester (e.g. divinyl adipate) is prepared by the alkenyl exchange reaction of an aliphatic or aromatic polybasic carboxylic acid (e.g. adipic acid) with an ester of formula R<1>COOR<2> (R<1> is H or univalent hydrocarbon; R<2> is alkenyl) (e.g. vinyl acetate) in the presence of a catalyst consisting of Pd metal and/or a Pd compound (e.g. palladium acetate) and a co-catalyst consisting of an alkali metal compound and a copper compound [at least one of the above two compounds is halide (esp. bromide)], such as the combination of potassium acetate and cupric bromide.
