A flame guard for an air filter mounted on an i.c. engine comprises a body placed downstream of the filter, between the filter and a connecting pipe going to the engine. The body incorporates a number of longitudinal passages of small section and long enough to bring about extinction of a flame entering the body, at the end of a certain distance within the latter.
