Heat pump or refrigerator - has compressor inlet preheater and expansion engine for compressor drive

The heat pump consists of an evaporator (4) and a compressor (1), an expansion valve (3) and a condenser (2). It is fitted with an additional heat exchanger (5) on the outlet side to the evaporator (4). The heat exchanger will pore-heat the gas to the inlet of the compressor. A further saving of energy may be obtained by replacing the expansion valve by an expansion engine which could be coupled to drive the compressor (1). The system may be applied to heat pumps for refrigeration circuits.
