A dehydrator 7 for the paper- web forming section in a fourdrinier paper-making machine comprising dehydrating plates 70 which withdraw liquid by direct contact with the undersurface of the forming fabric, has a receptacle 71 positioned beneath the dehydrator plates for collecting the liquid falling from the dehydrating plates. The receptacle has an outflow port 73 or weir for the collected liquid, and a transparent calibrated tube opening at its lower end to the receptacle at level near the bottom thereof and at its upper end to atmosphere. The level of the liquid showing in the tube is a measure of the amount of water being extracted. The measurement of widely differing rates of extraction can be achieved by providing the outflow port with an adjustable valve member and calibrating the tube with the valve member in each of a plurality of selected different positions of adjustment. <IMAGE> |
