A variable geometry seat back for a car has a flexible plate (4) inside the padding and adjusted in its curvature by two sets of tensioning cables (6, 7) operated by control spindles (10a) to suite the shape of the back of the occupant. The support provides a one piece fitting which is easily supported inside the seat structure. The lower end is rigidly fixed over a transverse support bar (3) while the upper end is linked to the seat frame by angled springs (2).
