Prior self-steering devices require special equipment which is both costly and cumbersome. The present invention makes use of a sail on the vessel for self-steering. A spring powered reel, or balance reel (59) is attached to the tiller (58) of a vessel (50) by a platform (103) and several straps (101, 102). A steering line (55) is attached at one end to the tiller (58) and at the other end to a traveler control line (54) or to the jib sheet. Balance line (60) and the balance reel (59) are used to tension the steering line such that variations in the position of the sail through the steering line (55) moves the tiller (58), and this steers the vessel (50). |
