<p>Rod blank is first placed in the space between a stationary die and a reciprocating heading punch. At the end of each pressing stroke, the punch is held stationary for a prescribed time, and is then retracted so it can start a fresh pressing stroke, which consists of a high speed advance and then the pressing stroke forming a head on each blank. The pref. heading press contains a stationary die, and uses a punch mounted in a holder on a reciprocating slide; and a feeder aligns each blank between the punch and the die before each heading stroke of the punch. The punch is pref. held in its stationary position via a spring-loaded transverse locking bar or plunger. Increased productivity is obtd.</p> |
