Stamped metal sheets are mounted in a magazine (5) in the form of a gap-free sheet column. Rotating discs (4) are pressed to a depth of 0.05 - 0.5 mm into the sides of the sheet column to bring about an adhesive connection. Located at the end of the sheets combined to form an endless strand is a severing device, by means of which sheet stacks of the desired thickness are severed. Deformations of the sheet column as a result of the connection of the stamped sheets are thus avoided. <IMAGE>
