Antitheft steering lock for vehicle - has shear pin to inhibit ignition and steering if forced

A security lock for a steering wheel lock in a vehicle has a shear pin (15) linking a control sleeve (12) with the steering column (11) to shear if a would-be thief tries to force the steering bolt. The pin shears and locks the sleeve to the column using a hidden spring bolt. The vehicle cannot be started or moved. The security lock immobilises the vehicle so that any damage caused by forcing the steering does not lead to an accident if the driver does not realise the steering has been forced. Above the shear force of the pin the steering is locked solid and the ignition switch is blocked. The vehicle is fitted with a new security lock at a garage.
