Casein paints contg. casein, water, lacca (shellac), sodium tetraborate, zinc oxide white, titanium dioxide and boiled linseed oil or half-oil. A shellac soln. is first made by hydrolysis of the shellac in hot water with the sodium tetraborate, cooling, mixing with other ingredients and then with a casein size, made by mixing casein with hot sodium tetraborate soln. A white base paint which can be coloured by addn. of usual pigments is obtd., with very good covering powder and resistant to washing after drying and oxidn. The binder is made from natural prods., free from synthetic resins or plasticisers, and hence physiologically acceptable. |
