<p>Appts. is claimed for the prodn. of biaxially orientated cylindrical thermoplastic mouldings, closed at one end, by heating to below crystalline m. pt., moving to a mould where the moulding is orientated in one direction and blow moulding to orientate in the other direction. A device holds the neck upside down with a needle beneath and an inner shank for first orientation which moves vertically and has a hole for blowing purposes. A metal core circulates in the heating oven and has a cylindrical holder, a hollow shaft rotating freely in it and with a cylinder at the top; an attachment extends from the top of this cylinder to hold the needle, and a gear wheel at the bottom of the shaft enables it to be rotated (3). The oven has a revolving disc for a number of cores, several heater elements and heat vents to produce several heating zones along the path of the core on the disc and thus heat the preform in stages. A heat shield has radial ribs rotating in synchronism with the cores to prevent disturbance of the heating atmosphere at the end of the oven; (5) the holder device has a brake to stop the core at a set distance from the shield in the rotation direction of the disc (6) a loader engages the device holding the preform, to move it from the stationary needle to a rotating mould system (7). This loader is rotated (8) a rotating blow-moulding layout has a number of moulds and a rod beneath to insert the core into each mould and inject compressed air (9). A mechanism withdraws the core (10). An unloader removes the holder from the mould (11) and a conveyor belt with hooks disengages the holder from the unloader and frees the moulding, it also takes the needle from the holder and places a new preform in position, (12). A transfer device at one corner of the belt mounts the holder on to the core at the entrance to the oven.</p> |
