<p>A novel human cancer associated protein, termed Cl 1AC, having Cl inactivator-like function has been provided. Diagnostic tests based on demonstrating the presence of Cl 1AC have also been provided. In addition, antibodies and antisera with specificity against Cl 1AC have been discovered. Matrix-immobilized antibodies have also been discovered. The Cl 1AC is preferably prepared by immunizing a non-human animal against an .alpha.-neuramino glycoprotein having inhibitory activity upon Cl esterase hydrolyizing effect, and inhibitory effect on Cl activation of C4 as shown by the inhibition of complement haemolysis, which process comprises: immunizing a non-human animal against the said .alpha.-neuramino glycoprotein; and then harvesting serum from the immunized animal. The invention also provides a therapy of human cancer using antisera or anitbodies with specificity against Cl 1AC: A novel human cancer associated protein; termed CAAC, and antisera and antibodies with specificity against CAAC have also been discovered. The used of rabbit antihuman C4 is also provided for monitoring cancer diseases.</p> |
